POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN COMPUTER VISION / IMAGE PROCESSING
VISION AND VIRTUAL REALITY LAB
YORK CENTRE FOR VISION RESEARCH, TORONTO, CANADA

The York Centre for Vision Research is seeking a post-doctoral
researcher in computer vision or image processing. The position
involves a mix of both fundamental and applied research. The latter
will support the development of artificial vision systems for
helicopter-based search and rescue. A key requirement for this
application is the development of algorithms for the unsupervised
classification of visually important structures in remote-sensed
imagery, to be incorporated into graphical terrain databases. Thus we
seek individuals with interests and experience in one or more of the
following: spatial image analysis, texture coding/recognition, wavelet
transforms, 2D shape analysis, spectral analysis, remote sensing. Given
the interdisciplinary nature of the project and lab, the position is
well-suited for individuals with ancillary interests in virtual reality,
computer graphics or human vision. The candidate will be expected to
work on algorithms and theories of general applicability, but which can
be demonstrated and tested in the application domain described above.
A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or
related area is required. Salary is competitive. Starting date is
flexible. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

The York Centre for Vision Research is an interdisciplinary centre
spanning the Departments of Psychology, Computer Science, Biology and
Philosophy. The Centre comprises 16 faculty, 15 post-doctoral fellows,
and roughly 40 graduate students. Members pursue fundamental and
applied research in visual, vestibular and auditory perception,
eye-movements, computer vision, virtual reality and robotics.
