SOLA is a major international player in the ophthalmic lens business. Our
goal is to deliver superior spectacle lens designs to our customers. Vision
Science plays an important role in the design of successful lenses and is
part of our lens design group. You will be focussing on the relationship
between lens and wearer and working on increasing SOLA's knowledge and
understanding of wearer's experiences. You will also be conducting
experiments into visual perception and lens performance and undertaking
collaborative research with vision research institutes, Universities and
Government Departments. Your work will include; visual psychophysics, visual
ergonomics, product comparisons, analysis of clinical dispensing practices
and data analysis. Your work will feed into the design of progressive and
single vision lenses, the management of presbyopia and myopia and the design
of sun lenses. You will need to be able to communicate your findings and
knowledge to the rest of the lens design group and to our marketing and
support groups. You will achieve this by developing relationships within the
company both at the local and international level.

You must have completed a recognised degree in science or technology.
Qualifications in vision science or a related discipline, preferably with
research experience, would be desirable as would further higher studies in
vision science. A good knowledge of human vision and solid psychophysics
experience is also desirable. Your ability or experience in an academic
environment and/or in designing and conducting experiments with human
subjects and the subsequent ethical considerations will be viewed
favourably, as will any experience with or knowledge of the Cambridge
Systems VSG2/3 board, eye tracking, binocular vision, refraction, image
processing, optical bench work and sound programming skills. You will have
the ability to communicate across all levels of the company and to work as
part of a multi-disciplinary team. Your integrity, energy, ambition and "can
