    Postdoctoral Research Position

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position, working with Dr. John
Troy, on an NEI funded grant to study neural coding in the cat retina. Our
aim is to understand how images are encoded by the array of retinal
ganglion cells, using a combination of electrophysiological, anatomical and
modeling techniques. Applicants who have experience in single- or
multi-unit recording of neurons, mammalian surgical techniques, a
quantitative background, computer programming and a background in
neuroscience would be especially attractive candidates. Others with
experience in anatomy or quantitative methods and a desire to obtain
training in electrophysiology would be considered also.

Our laboratory is in Northwestern University's engineering school on its
Evanston campus. The Evanston campus sits on the shoreline of Lake
Michigan, approximately 15 miles north of downtown Chicago.

An application should consist of: 1) a statement of your research
experience, interests and goals, 2) a curriculum vitae, and 3) the names
and addresses of three people who would provide letters of reference for
you. This information can be sent via email, fax or standard mail to the
address below. Informal preliminary enquiries by email are welcome.

Earliest start date: August 1, 2000.

Salary negotiable, depending on level of experience.
