PhD positions are available at the Werner Reichardt Centre for Integrative Neuroscience in Tuebingen, Germany (in the laboratory of Ziad Hafed). Research in the lab explores the neural basis of eye movements and visual perception through neurophysiological experiments, human psychophysics, and modeling.
The ideal candidates will be highly motivated and with an educational background in neuroscience, computational neuroscience, computer science, engineering, physics, or related fields. A strong academic record is required. Programming skills (e.g. Matlab, C) are highly desirable (and will have to be learned during the course of study). Prior experience with neurophysiology and/or psychophysics is not mandatory, but will be highly valued.
The Werner Reichardt Centre for Integrative Neuroscience (CIN) (http://www.cin.uni-tuebingen.de) is an interdisciplinary institution funded by the German Excellence Initiative program. The CIN strives to deepen our understanding of how the brain generates function and how brain diseases impair functions. Its scientific program is guided by the conviction that progress in the understanding of brain function can be achieved with an integrative approach spanning multiple levels of organization and pooling the knowledge of researchers from many different fields.
Tuebingen is a vibrant university city in the south of Germany. Besides the CIN, Tuebingen is also home to the Hertie Institute for Cognitive Neurology and several institutes of the Max Planck Society, among others. This allows for a tremendous exposure to the latest advances in neuroscience, vision/robotics, human-computer interaction, brain-computer interfaces, etc. There are also opportunities for collaborative projects across labs/institutes.
Interested candidates should send a CV, brief summary of interests, and the names of two or three referees familiar with the candidates’ backgrounds to Ziad Hafed (ziad.m.hafed at cin.uni-tuebingen.de).
