Ph.D. position on the role of the primary visual cortex for visual awareness
The laboratory of Prof. Dr. Nikos Logothetis at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Tübingen, Germany is seeking candidates for a Ph.D. position to study the neurophysiological mechanisms of visual awareness at the level of the primary visual cortex.
Projects will be supervised by Dr. Michael Schmid and will apply single unit recordings and pharmacological inactivation methods in awake behaving monkeys. For more detailed information, see Schmid et al., Blindsight depends on the lateral geniculate nucleus, Nature. 2010 Jul 15;466(7304):373-7.
Applicants should have a high commitment, independence and curiosity about neuroscientific questions. Quantitative skills, including fluency in Matlab, are not required per se, but will need to be developed through the course of the Ph.D..
Please email a CV and brief letter of interest with names and email addresses of 2 people who can write letters of recommendation to Dr. Michael Schmid (schmidmicha at gmail.com<mailto:schmidmicha at gmail.com>). Please indicate why you are interested in particular in our laboratory and in our line of research. All applications that follow these guidelines will be given serious consideration.
