Postdoctoral Fellow in Visual Neuroscience
Department of Physiology, Monash University - Melbourne, Australia.

A position is available for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the lab of Dr Nicholas
Price at Monash University. Research in the lab explores the neuronal basis
of visual perception using a range of techniques including
electrophysiological and eye movement recordings in alert primates, and
psychophysical testing and eye movement recordings in human subjects.
Current projects are characterising common variability in the activity of
sensory neurons in area MT, eye movements and motion perception, focusing on
how these neuronal, ocular and perceptual responses are affected by stimulus
history and task context.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated with a
quantitative background and have a demonstrated ability to conduct and
communicate research. Skills and experience that are highly desirable, and
which the successful candidate will receive further training in,
include: single-unit electrophysiological recordings; behavioural training
of animals; human psychophysics; and computer programming for
stimulus presentation and statistical analysis (Psychtoolbox, Matlab and C).

Monash University is home to a large neuroscience and mental health network
including over 200 neuroscientists and clinicians. In particular, the
Department of Physiology has a rapidly expanding focus on sensory and
systems neuroscience and is part of an inter-disciplinary consortium to
develop a cortical visual prosthesis.
Enthusiastic candidates will have the opportunity to collaborate on these
bionic-eye projects.

The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications
and experience, with a remuneration package of up to $76k p.a.
(which includes base salary, leave loading and 9% employer's contribution to
superannuation). Starting date is flexible, but the position is available

Melbourne is a large and vibrant city with diverse culture, great food,
