Schepens Eye Research Institute, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, has
an opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Vision Science to work with Dr
Russell Woods, with collaboration from Dr Peter Bex. The NIH-supported
project will develop and evaluate methods of assisting people with central
vision impairments view electronic media such as television. We seek a
creative individual with a strong background in basic or clinical vision
science. The successful applicant will collaborate in designing and
conducting computer-based psychophysical experiments to study visual
function of people with central visual field loss, develop methods to
simulate central vision loss, help develop novel methods for the enhancement
of (moving) natural images, and evaluate the value of those methods for
people with visual impairment.
The ideal applicant will have completed (or be about to complete) their PhD,
will have MatLab programming skills with familiarity with the PsychToolBox,
a background in visual psychophysics, experience with gaze tracking (eye
movement research). Applicants should demonstrate the ability to
communicate effectively both orally and in writing. The position is
initially available for one year with the possibility of an extension for
another two years.
