Senior Lecturer

Lancaster University - Department of Psychology

Ref: A352

Salary: £46,846 - £52,706

Closing Date: 30 March 2012

Our newly established Centre for Research in Human Development and Learning (CRHDL) has a core complement of 16 members of academic staff, including developmental psychologists, neuroscientists and cognitive psychologists. This centre aims to advance a theoretical and applied understanding of typical and atypical development and learning from early infancy through to adulthood using experimental, computational and neuroscientific approaches.

You should be an excellent researcher and an experienced developmental neuroscientist with a proven track record of high-quality publications and evidence of engagement with securing external research funding. You should also have experience of research supervision and be able to demonstrate leadership in research and teaching. You will join a strong academic team and will play an important role in addressing Lancaster's ambition to retain its position as a top 10 UK university and to achieve its goal of becoming one of the world's top 100 institutions. Working to enhance Lancaster's distinctive ethos of innovative thinking and interdisciplinary collaboration, you will contribute excellent research and teaching to strengthen the reputation of the CRHDL and the Psychology Department.

The CRHDL is well resourced, with excellent testing facilities including eye-tracking equipment, 3D movement registration systems, audio-visual recording laboratories, acoustic laboratories and a 128-channel EEG facility suitable for infant recording. The Centre has strong collaborative links with local NHS hospitals and with other regional, national and international universities. Members of the Centre also work closely with other departments within the University, including Linguistics, Health Research, Mathematics & Statistics, Economics and Educational Research.

The quality of the Department's international research is mirrored by the quality of its teaching (e.g., The Telegraph currently features Lancaster as a top-10 UK undergraduate psychology course). The Department's postgraduate provision is thriving and includes ESRC-recognised PhD and Masters programmes. The Department's undergraduate community is likewise extremely buoyant. We offer a supportive and collegiate environment, with moderate and carefully managed teaching and administration loads.

Informal enquiries can be made to the Head of Department, Dr Linden J Ball (l.ball at lancaster.ac.uk) or the Director of the CRHDL, Prof Padraic Monaghan (p.monaghan at lancaster.ac.uk). Further information about the Department is available at www.psych.lancs.ac.uk
