Satellite Events


Many satellite events have been scheduled during and before this year's VSS

PsychoPy Workshop - Thursday, May, 10, 12:00 - 5:00 pm (before the start of
VSS 2012)

Organizer: Jonathan Peirce
A detailed half-day workshop on how to use PsychoPy. Mixture of
demonstrations and periods of users creating their own experiment in the
software. Time spent half on graphical interface and half on the scripting

Workshop on Mathematical and Computational Modeling - Thursday, May 10, 9 am
-12 pm, 4-7 pm, and

Friday, May 11, 9 am - 12 pm (before the start of VSS 2012)

Hands-on workshop to discuss and evaluate modeling techniques applied to

Linking Brain Development and Visual Function: A tribute to the Legacy of
Davida Teller  - Friday, May, 11, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm (before the start of
VSS 2012)

Organizers: Lynne Kiorpes and Karen Dobkins

The session will be a tribute to the work of Davida Teller and highlight her
scientific contributions to progress in understanding the development of
visual function. 


Publishing, Open Access, and Open Science - Friday, May, 11, 11:00 am -
12:00 pm (before the start of VSS 2012)

Organizer: Alex Holcombe

A discussion about how to achieve an open system of science in which 1.
Journal articles are inexpensive or free, 2. Peer review is fair and
efficient, and 3. Experiments can be fully replicated by anyone. For more

Individual Differences in Vision Brown Bag Lunch - Saturday, May, 12, 12:45

CVS-VVRC Party at VSS - Sunday, May, 13, 10:00 pm - 1am

The Annual Vanderbilt Vision Research Center (VVRC) and University of
Rochester's Center for Visual Science (CVS) student social at VSS. First 250
guests will receive a free drink ticket. 


The 8th Annual Best Illusion of the Year Contest - Monday, May, 14, 5:00 -
7:00 pm (prior to VSS Demo Night)

The Best Illusion of the Year Contest is a celebration of the ingenuity and

Stuart Anstis Mid-Career Intervention -Wednesday, May, 16, 3:00 - 6:00 pm,
followed by a dinner and game session (after the close of VSS 2012)

Organizers: Debbie Giaschi, Patrick Cavanagh, Peter Thompson, Brian Rogers,
Don MacLeod, George Mather, Christopher Tyler, Alan Gilchrist

Three hours of talks and science workshop based on Stuart's contributions,
followed by an evening session.  Submissions for talks, posters and
interactive demonstrations are invited. Registration required.


Demo Night


Demo Night Proposals will be accepted through March 12, 2012. More
information, along with the online submission form, can be found at


Airport Shuttle


Need transportation from Ft. Meyers airport to the meeting hotels?
Reservations are now available for the Airport Shuttle. The one-way VSS fare
is $30.00 per person plus a 15% driver gratuity each way and will be
available every day of the VSS meeting beginning on Wednesday, May 4. For
