3rd PAVIS School on Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition, and Image
Processing

October 2-5, 2012 – Sestri Levante (GE), Italy
(1 week before ECCV 2012 in Florence)

COMPONENT ANALYSIS METHODS FOR HUMAN SENSING
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Invited speakers

       * Fernando De la Torre, CMU Robotics Institute, USA
       * Jeffrey Cohn, University of Pittsburgh, USA

This school covers a number of critical topics in computer vision and
visual recognition including kernel principal component analysis,
support vector machines, spectral clustering that are commonly used to
learn spatial and temporal patterns of human behavior. Lectures offer a
general introduction to the component analysis theory with extensions of
the methods that outperform state-of-the-art algorithms in problems such
as temporal alignment of human behavior, activity recognition, face
recognition, temporal segmentation/clustering of human activities, joint
segmentation and classification of human behavior, and facial feature
detection in images.

This school follows a series of intensive courses, targeting PhD
students and researchers in the areas of Computer Vision, Image
Processing, and Pattern Recognition.
The course is residential, spanning 4 days, so that attendees can
install a more productive interaction with the lecturers.

It is organized and sponsored by PAVIS (Pattern analysis and Computer
Vision) department of the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, Genova (Italy).
The course will take place in the beautiful Baia del Silenzio in Sestri
Levante (http://g.co/maps/xqnyr), located between the city of Genova and
the border to Tuscany. The school is structured in a such way that
attendees can install a more productive interaction with the lecturers.

Notice that the school will take place the week before ECCV 2012 in
Florence. Sestri Levante is located approximately 2 hours far away by
car from Florence. Connections to the main railways are also available
from Sestri Levante.
