Applications are invited for an EPSRC-supported postdoctoral research position in the area of computer science. The successful candidate will conduct research relevant to AI applications in cybersecurity and smart cities. This position is funded by a research project grant from EPSRC. You will work primarily with Dr Richard Jiang and his team.

The past decade has witnessed rapid progress on automated human/object identification using visual cues. However, there is yet a gap between the state-of-art machine learning methods and real human perception systems. The challenge can become even harder when training data are limited, sparse or out of samples. This project will look into the difference between human perception and state-of-art machine learning methods, identify the efficiency of biological vision over machine vision, and propose novel bio-inspired methods for this challenge. Particularly, the project will look into the utilization of automated human identification in the forensic and cybersecurity applications.

The ideal candidate will have a good knowledge of computer vision, machine learning and artificial intelligence. Experience in Cybersecurity and Big Data Analytics would be beneficial. Applicants must hold a PhD degree or have submitted a PhD thesis. It will be expected that the successful candidate can carry out independent research and produce high-quality publications.

It will be expected the successful candidate can carry out independent research and produce high-quality publications on top journals/conferences. A publication track record on high-impact journals and/or conferences (such as CVPR/ECCV/ICCV/ICML/NIPS) will be highly welcome.
