Thu Apr 6 18:41:32 -05 2017

The laboratory of Dr. Erika Eggers at the University of Arizona is seeking a highly motivated individual to work on NIH and NSF funded studies of the structure and function of retinal circuits in normal and diabetic mammalian retinas. Potential projects include determining how changes in retinal neuronal signaling and morphology contribute to visual deficits in early diabetes and determining how changes in synaptic signaling in the retina lead to increased visual acuity at bright light levels. The studies will utilize single-cell electrophysiology, immunohistochemistry, optogenetic activation and two-photon imaging. More information on our current research interests can be found at: http://eggerslab.sites.arizona.edu/

Required Qualifications:

The candidate must have obtained a Ph.D. prior to the beginning of the appointment in neuroscience, vision sciences, biology, physiology, physics, engineering or related disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience or interest in visual neurophysiology

- Experience with patch-clamp electrophysiology, calcium imaging, optogenetics or other functional recording methods.

- Experience with programming in Matlab.

- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills

Interested candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, a brief statement of research interests and accomplishments, and contact information of three references to Erika Eggers at eeggers at u.arizona.edu.

The Eggers laboratory is in the Departments of Physiology and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Arizona and is part of University of Arizona collaborative programs in Physiological Sciences, Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering that involve faculty, students and postdocs from across campus. The University of Arizona is located in Tucson, Arizona a city known for outdoor activities, including hiking and biking.
