Interested in joining an active research group with excellent facilities in a great location that is doing state-of-the-art work that matters?
Schepens Eye Research Institute, Mass Eye and Ear, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, has an opening for a full-time research assistant to work with Dr. Eli Peli and colleagues in the Mobility Enhancement and Vision Rehabilitation Center of Excellence.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly-motivated person with above-average computer skills who would enjoy the challenge of working with virtual reality systems in studies evaluating the effects of vision impairment and rehabilitation interventions on walking and driving. The main responsibilities will be associated with our driving simulator studies, including the administration, maintenance and running of our state-of-the-art driving simulator, as well as assisting with the analysis of driving data and eye-tracking data logged during simulator sessions. The position may also involve working on other projects.
The position is initially available for 12 months with possible extension and involves all stages of the research process from planning experiments to assisting with manuscript writing and presentation preparation. The responsibilities will include developing and implementing experimental protocols, scripting driving simulator scenarios, recruiting subjects, collecting data, running simulator sessions, training and support for other driving simulator users, maintaining databases, and processing and analyzing data.
BA or BS in an area related to vision science is required. Good problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently on multiple tasks, and strong interpersonal skills are essential. A strong background in computer use is necessary and an interest in developing programming skills would be advantageous. Knowledge of experimental psychology, visual psychophysics or statistics would be a plus.
In addition to the online application at Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary (https://meei.referrals.selectminds.com/jobs/res-asst-i-seri-608), interested candidates should send an email to Lauren Spano at lauren_spano at meei.harvard.edu<mailto:lauren_spano at meei.harvard.edu> and should include a CV, a letter of interest, the expected date of availability, and contact information for at least 2 references (in .pdf format).
