Assistant Research Professor Data Science Research Center Duke Kunshan University
The Data Science Research Center (DSRC) at Duke Kunshan University (DKU) is seeking applicants with expertise in computer vision, and in particular, video analysis to engage in research collaboration between Duke University and major industrial companies.
DKU is a partnership of Duke University, Wuhan University and the Municipality of Kunshan, China. The campus is located 37 miles west of Shanghai in Kunshan, which is connected to Shanghai via a 20- minute high-speed train. DKU currently offers graduate and undergraduate programs. DSRC is an interdisciplinary research-dedicated unit that engages a broad spectrum of investigators across disciplines including professors Robert Calderbank (Member of US National Academy of Engineering), Larry Carin (Vice Provost for Research at Duke) etc. The center is aggressively pursuing interdisciplinary research on big data analytics over a broad range of applications including autonomous driving, advanced manufacturing, digital arts, etc.
A successful candidate will work with a group of faculty members on algorithm design, prototype development, experimental evaluation, as well as providing consultation and assistance to industrial collaborators for technology transfer. As such, the position includes great opportunities for co- investigation and co-authorship in dissemination activities. The total compensation is expected to be as competitive as leading IT companies in China. Exceptionally strong research faculty may switch to tenure track subject to the standard application and interview process at both Duke and DKU.
Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field; at least three years of experience conducting computer vision research, including years of education; co- authorship of scholarly work involving video analysis; proficient in both English and Chinese, and excellent communication skills and experience contributing to a productive research group.
Preferred qualifications include five years of experience conducting computer vision research, including years of education and postdoctoral experience; and evidence of independence in research, grant writing, and publication.
