The Physics of Cognition Group (Wolfgang Einhäuser;

University of Technology (TU Chemnitz) invites applications for

1 PhD position

starting January 1st, 2018. The application deadline is Nov 3rd, 2017.


The position is contingent on funding availability and limited to 4 years
in accordance with the applicable regulations. Salary is according to the
German salary scale (E13 TV-L) at 65%. The position is funded by the German
Research Foundation (DFG) through the project "Effects of informational
value on perception and attention in associative learning" as part of the
Collaborative Research Center (SFB) "Cardinal Mechanisms of Perception" (
http://www.allpsych.uni-giessen.de/sfb/projects/project-b4.html), pending
final approval of funding. Applicants are expected to actively engage in
collaborative research with partners at the universities of Giessen and
Marburg.


The PhD project will address the effects of associative learning and
supra-modal categories on multistable perceptual phenomena (e.g., binocular
rivalry). Methods include advanced psychophysics, eye tracking and
pupillometry. Experience in one or more of these fields is a plus.


Applicants must hold a M.Sc. degree or equivalent in psychology, physics,
cognitive science, neuroscience or a related field. If the M.Sc. degree is
not completed at the time of application, a statement by the thesis
supervisor must be included that confirms that the degree will be completed
before January 2018. Application documents must include a complete CV,
copies of transcripts of all academic institutions, a letter of motivation
for the specific position, as well as the names and contact information of
