*Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Neurophysiology: Natal, RN, Brazil*
The Brain Institute in Natal (Instituto do Cerebro - ICe) of the Federal
University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) invites applications for a tenure
track faculty position in the field of Neurophysiology in Non-Human
Primates at the Assistant Professor level. UFRN has a strong commitment to
research and education as a leading University in the city of Natal, a
tropical paradise in northeastern Brazil. The ICe is interested in
candidates that develop research in non-human primates and analytical tools
to address major challenges in Systems Neuroscience. Successful candidates
are expected to establish an internationally recognized research program,
teach in graduate and/or undergraduate courses, interact with diverse
faculty, staff and students across campus, and function as an active member
of the ICe’s faculty.
The ICe is an interactive and vibrant community of faculty, postdocs,
students and staff who contribute significantly to the science community of
UFRN. In the second semester of 2018 the ICe will move to its new building
within the UFRN Campus. Importantly, the new building is equipped with a
large, modern and well-designed primate facility, with indoor management
and surgical facilities, combined with outdoor aspects such as light and
ventilation. The ICe is in a phase of growth and offers a stimulating
academic environment. Current research lines include cognitive and systems
neuroscience, molecular and cell neurobiology, computational neuroscience
and applied neurosciences. The ICe is one of the stakeholders of the
Bioinformatics Center, and has close interactions with the University
Hospital Onofre Lopes, the Institute for Tropical Medicine, the
International Institute of Physics and the Digital Metropolis Institute of
UFRN, which harbors supercomputing facilities. More information about the
ICe is available at:
http://www.neuro.ufrn.br/
The new faculty position comes with an initial monthly salary of R$
10,043.67 (for comparison, home rental in Natal ranges from 5-15% this
wage), and include labor benefits such as 13 salaries per year, and 45 days
per year of paid vacations. The position will be tenured by the Federal
Government with a single confirmatory evaluation three years after hiring.
UFRN aims to amplify its international spectrum, and applications of
foreign researchers are strongly encouraged. Applicants should hold a PhD
in Neuroscience or a related discipline, and must demonstrate excellence in
research, and strong commitment to teaching.
The announcement and the application form (# 035/2017) can be found at the
link "Concursos abertos" at the homepage of the Human Resource Management
System (SIGRH): http://www.progesp.ufrn.br/concurso.php?id=222568781. The
interval for application opens December 1st and closes on December 29th,
2017. Non-Portuguese speaking candidates should contact the Brain Institute
for assistance with their application: grace at neuro.ufrn.br,
kschmidt at neuro.ufrn.br
The contest will consist of a written exam, didactic exam, memorial defense
and a professional practice project, as well as a proof of titles whose
evaluations are scheduled to take place from April 29th to May 15th 2018.
Candidates can use either Portuguese or English in the contest.
