Postdoctoral Fellow in Machine Learning in the Dept. of Psychiatry, Baylor College of Medicine & Electrical & Computer Engineering, Rice University

The Papageorgiou/Investigational Targeted Brain Neurotherapeutics Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow to conduct machine learning classification techniques on cortical repair and neuromodulation using fMRI and real-time functional MRI neurofeedback approaches combined with EEG data acquisition in the long-term. The lab focuses on the mechanisms involved in cortical blindness, motor impairment as a result of lower cranial nerve injury, and chronic pain as a function of inducing learning. These studies present a highly exciting opportunity to gain an understanding of innovative neurofeedback methods applied in various patient populations depending on the domain of brain function lesioned, such as in visual, motor, and pain-matrix networks.

The postdoctoral fellow will be involved in the application of machine learning techniques to fMRI in real-time for delivery of neurofeedback and offline analyses.. The overall goal in conducting machine learning analyses is to develop optimization neurofeedback approaches via computational modelling. The position can extend to 4-5 years with strong performance.

The trainee will benefit from: (i) the Core for Advanced MR Imaging Facility at Baylor College of Medicine, which includes a state-of-the art imaging facility with research-dedicated Siemens 3T PRISMA (64-channel), and 3T MAGNETOM Trio (32-channel).

Essential Duties
Apply machine learning techniques to our already existing real-time fMRI neurofeedback software platform.
Conduct analyses using machine learning approaches.
Document research, and write-up papers in peer-reviewed journals.

Qualifications

Prerequisite is a Ph.D. in a relevant field: Bio-engineering/Biomedical Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Neuroscience; Computer Science, Applied Physics, Applied Math or related field
Strong background in machine learning approaches, such as support vector machine, random forests, decision trees, neural networks.

Strong Expertise in Matlab, or Python programming

Apply: Please send a CV, 3-4 references, and a cover letter that lists: (i) your expertise in types of machine learning methods you have used; and (ii) which software programs you used to conduct your machine learning analysis to Dr. Dorina Papageorgiou at papageor at bcm.edu<mailto:papageor at bcm.edu>

Compensation commensurate with experience.

Baylor College of Medicine is an Equal Opportunity /Affirmative Action/Equal Access Employer.
