Subject: PhD / postdoc position on computer vision of facial dynamics in autism at KU Leuven

Please, forward to students/collaborators with a strong background in computer vision or computational sciences.

Computer vision of facial dynamics in infants at risk for autism spectrum disorder (PhD student or postdoc position) (ref. BAP-2017-638)
Within the context of a large-scale interdisciplinary and interuniversity study (UGent and KU Leuven, Belgium; FWO-SBO research grant) we investigate the developmental trajectory of infants at increased risk for autism, in order to enable earlier diagnosis. In this multidisciplinary research group novel computer vision methods for the analysis of facial dynamics are being developed to assess the risk of autism. The group is looking for a bright and motivated scientist in computer vision or computational sciences who is willing to start a 4-year PhD or 2-3 year postdoc based at the KU Leuven, under the supervision of dr. Peter Claes (ESAT, processing of speech and images), prof. dr. Hilde Peeters (Center for Human Genetics) and prof. dr. Bart Boets (Center for Developmental Psychiatry).
The research will be embedded in a very stimulating environment with state-of-the-art technical facilities and ample opportunities for interaction with various engineers, clinicians and experts on neurodevelopmental disorders and brain imaging.
Profile

  * Applicants should have or should soon obtain a Master's degree in engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence or equal.
  * Have a strong background in computer vision and/or related computational sciences. Postdocs with experience in these domains are also encouraged to apply.
  * Have some background and a strong interest in risk modelling and machine learning.
  * Programming skills are a necessary requirement, preferably in python, C, C++ and Matlab.
  * Be interested in an intensive research experience of 4 years.
  * Good skills in oral and written English.
  * An understanding of the Dutch language is a strong advantage
