*Full-Time Research Assistant Position in Vision Science*
*Location:* Schepens Eye Research Institute, Mass Eye and Ear, Harvard
Medical School, Boston, MA
*Start date:* Open immediately
*Interested in joining a large active research group with excellent
resources that is doing state-of-the-art work in clinical applied vision
science that matters? *
Schepens Eye Research Institute, Mass Eye and Ear, an affiliate of Harvard
Medical School has an opening for a full-time research assistant to work
with Prof. Eli Peli and colleagues in the Mobility Enhancement and Vision
Rehabilitation Center of Excellence.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly-motivated person with
above-average computer skills who would enjoy the challenge of working with
virtual reality systems (e.g. head-mounted displays). The position involves
evaluating the effects of visual prostheses (e.g., retinal implant or
sensory substitution devices) on object recognition and visual search.
Major responsibilities will be associated with the project goal of
improving the quality of imaging for visual prostheses.
The job includes project specific tasks, such as assisting with simulated
visual prostheses using a VR system, and interacting with blind and
normally-sighted subjects for training in the use of visual
prostheses. Broader responsibilities will involve all stages of the
research process, from IRB documentation preparation to designing
experiments and assisting with manuscript writing and presentation
preparation. Additional responsibilities will include developing and
implementing experimental protocols, collecting data, running experimental
sessions, maintaining databases, and data processing and analysis.
Research assistants in the lab frequently co-author or even serve as lead
authors on publications and have a great record of ending in excellent
professional or graduate programs (see people page of our website).
*Education and Experience Required:*
BA or BS in an area related to vision science or computer science is
required, MS would be a plus. Good problem solving skills, the ability to
work independently and with a multidisciplinary team on multiple tasks, and
strong interpersonal skills are essential. A strong background in computer
use is necessary and an interest in developing programming skills (e.g.,
Matlab) would be advantageous. A good candidate needs to be interested in
visual prosthesis or human vision in general. Knowledge of experimental
psychology, visual psychophysics, image processing, and/or 3D rendering or
statistics is a plus.
In addition to the *online application* at Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary (
https://meei.referrals.selectminds.com/jobs/research-assistant-peli-lab-1264
) interested candidates should *email Kassandra Lee* at
kassandra_lee at meei.harvard.edu and should include a CV, letter of interest,
expected date of availability, and contact information for at least 2
references (in .pdf format).
Applications should be submitted by March 15, 2018.
The Institute is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action and E-Verify
Employer.
