VSS promotes camaraderie in many ways, but for some attendees (small labs, far travel), some dinners can be lonely. Back when vision science was a small part of a larger meeting, there was a friendly informal tradition in which people would gather after the vision science poster session and go out to dinner together. I’d like to suggest that we continue this informal tradition. Attendees looking for camaraderie and dinner could meet outside the poster session to go a restaurant, on nights when an official dinner isn’t scheduled. This would not be an official VSS function, but I would expect that anyone wearing a VSS Badge would do their part to ensure safety for all. The VSS “Code of Conduct” emphasizes professional, respectful behavior. Camaraderie can promote scientific discussion and thinking.
