Research in the self-motion lab (https://wolfweb.unr.edu/~pmacneilage/)
aims to understand how visual and vestibular sensory signals are integrated
with motor signals to support perception of self-motion as well as basic
behaviors that depend on self-motion estimates, including reflexive eye and
head movement and postural control. Psychophysical experiments are
conducted in a virtual reality facility consisting of a hexapod motion
platform and a large field-of-view visual display for delivering
well-controlled vestibular and optic flow stimuli. Other equipment includes
a rotating chair, treadmill, and head-mounted displays. Motor contributions
to self-motion and spatial orientation are investigated through optical
tracking of eye, head, and body movement. Sensory and motor processing are
modeled in a probabilistic framework.

Applicants should have a PhD in a related field. Prior experience with
psychophysics, probabilistic modeling, virtual reality and/or tracking
equipment is desirable. A background in engineering and/or computer science
is advantageous. The position is available immediately. Applications will
be assessed as they arrive; position posting will remain open until filled.
Salary will be based on NIH post-doctoral rates and commensurate with
experience. The position is a non-tenure-track full-time ‘A’ contract
appointment for 12 months with potential for renewal for additional years.

The lab is part of the Integrative Neurocience (
https://www.unr.edu/neuroscience/center) and Cognitive and Brain Sciences (
http://groups.unr.edu/unr_psych_cbs/CBS_grad_program/) programs at the
University of Nevada, Reno. Reno is located near Northern California on the
Eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, only 45 minutes drive from
Lake Tahoe and 3.5 hours drive from the San Francisco Bay Area.
