Two (2) Tenure-track Appointments in Psychology

COGNITIVE NEUROSCIENCE

The Department of Psychology at Queen's University invites applications for two positions at the rank of Assistant Professor with specialization in Cognitive Neuroscience. These are tenure-track positions held in the Department of Psychology, with a preferred starting date of July 1, 2019.
Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree completed at the start date of the appointment. The main criteria for selection are demonstrated academic and teaching excellence. We invite applications from all areas of cognitive neuroscience. We particularly encourage applications from researchers whose current focus is related to cognitive processes that individuals use to interact with their spatial environments. We seek individuals who will make substantial theoretical contributions to their topic area, build on connections within our department (such as visual cognition, action, perception, memory and attention) and possibly open up connections with other departments at Queen's University, such as Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, and Medical Sciences.
The successful applicants will be positioned to train leading scholars, and will have the potential to build bridges into the technology sector that can supplement effective training for highly qualified jobs in academia and industry. The candidates must also be able to teach courses of broad appeal to graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in Psychology.
The successful candidates will provide evidence of high quality scholarly output that demonstrates potential for independent research leading to peer assessed publications and the securing of external research funding, as well as strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and an ongoing commitment to academic and pedagogical excellence. Candidates must provide evidence of an ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary and student-centered environment. The successful candidates will be required to make substantive contributions through service to the department, the Faculty, the University, and/or the broader community. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is subject to final budgetary approval by the University.
The Department has excellent facilities for interdisciplinary research through links with the Queen's Centre for Neuroscience Studies and its research-dedicated 3T Siemens Trio MRI facility (http://neuroscience.queensu.ca/), the Queen's Biological Communication Centre (http://www.queensu.ca/psychology/queens-biological-communication-centre) and the Centre for Advanced Computing (http://cac.queensu.ca/).
The University invites applications from all qualified individuals. Queen's is committed to employment equity and diversity in the workplace and welcomes applications from women, visible minorities, Aboriginal peoples, persons with disabilities, and LGBTQ persons. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, in accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority.
To comply with federal laws, the University is obliged to gather statistical information as to how many applicants for each job vacancy are Canadian citizens / permanent residents of Canada. Applicants need not identify their country of origin or citizenship; however, all applications must include one of the following statements: "I am a Canadian citizen / permanent resident of Canada" OR, "I am not a Canadian citizen / permanent resident of Canada". Applications that do not include this information will be deemed incomplete.

A complete application consists of:

-        a cover letter (including one of the two statements regarding Canadian citizenship / permanent resident status specified in the previous paragraph);

-        a current Curriculum Vitae (including a list of publications, awards and grants received);

-        a statement of current and prospective research interests;

- a statement of teaching interests and experience (including teaching philosophy, as well as teaching outlines and evaluations if available); and,

Reference letters should be dated, and include the referee's name, position, department, institution, email address and telephone number, the name of the nominee, and the period of time and the capacity in which the referee has known the nominee.
