The Computational Breast Imaging Group (CBIG) of the Radiology Department at the University of Pennsylvania has open postdoctoral positions. CBIG is a group within the Center for Biomedical Image Computing and Analytics (CBICA) with a mission to act as a translational catalyst between computational imaging science and breast cancer research. Work in our group focuses on developing innovative methodology for multimodality image analysis and also on incorporating such methods into clinically relevant applications. The two following positions Research Staff Positions are currently available:
Data Analyst (MS-Level, Full-time Staff Position)
The data analyst will support imaging-related research. He/she will work collaboratively and will interface with faculty, research scientists, and trainees forming a diverse imaging and data science team. Responsibilities include collecting and organizing large datasets with clinical imaging data; applying, testing, validating and extending advanced image processing algorithms and protocols on medical images from various clinical studies in a distributed cloud computing environment; collecting, organizing and verifying final quantitative and imaging results; performing statistical analyses and hypothesis testing using advanced machine learning methods. The data analyst will also perform quality control on the results, and communicate with lab faculty, trainees, and clinical collaborators in preparation of publications. The position requires an M.Sc. degree, preferably in computer science, statistics, biomedical engineering, mathematics or a related discipline with an emphasis in computational methods, with 1 to 2 years of hands-on experience conducting image analysis, bioinformatics, and statistical analysis research. Strong computational/programming skills (advanced knowledge of C/C++ and Python, version control, statistical analysis packages, experience in Linux/Unix platforms and shell scripting) is a must. Good organizational and communication skills are also essential for the position. Experience with medical images and distributed cloud computing is a plus.

Senior Research Investigator/Lab Manager (PhD-Level, Full-time Staff Position)
The Senior Research Investigator will be responsible for facilitating and coordinating several ongoing research. He/she will work collaboratively and will interface with faculty, research scientists, and trainees forming a diverse imaging and data science team. Responsibilities will include overseeing the collection and organization of large databases with clinical imaging data; planning and implementation of image processing and analysis pipelines using existing computational modules; development of new computational tools; design experiments, test hypotheses, and build statistical/machine learning models; supervision of image analysts in data organization and successful execution of the processing pipeline in a distributed cloud computing environment. Also, he/she will be responsible for reporting and communication of image processing and analysis results to scientific collaborators and designing quality control protocols to ensure the integrity and the quality of original and processed images, as well as of final quantitative results. The Senior Research Investigator will work in close collaboration with external collaborators to assist them in the interpretation of the reported results. He/she will perform statistical analysis of the imaging-derived data working together with other researchers in the lab and will contribute to manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals. He/she will also supervise and train other research staff and will attend meetings and conferences as needed. The position requires a Ph.D. degree, preferably in computer science, statistics, biomedical engineering, mathematics or a related discipline with a strong background in computational methods, and 5 to 7 years of hands-on experience conducting image analysis, bioinformatics, and statistical analysis research. Experience in image processing, statistics, data mining, machine learning, pattern analysis, and programming/software development is required (advanced knowledge of C/C++, Python, and Matlab, statistical analysis packages, version control, advanced experience in Linux/Unix platforms, shell scripting and distributed computing is a must). Experience with oncologic imaging research is a plus (e.g., X-ray/CT, MRI, PET). This is a high-energy, and highly interactive position where good problem solving, organizational, and communication skills, and a team-work mentality are vital. Strong writing skills are also key; publication record in imaging research is preferred.

CBICA has been a dynamically growing group, including several research laboratories and many collaborators from diverse fields. Opportunities within CBIG exist in many existing and new projects in multi-modality imaging breast and lung cancer applications, including molecular imaging. For more information, please visit:
