Dear colleagues
We would be most grateful if you could spread the word on our offer for
a Predoctoral Fellowship (4-year contract) at the Visual Optics and
Biophotonics Lab (Institute of Optics, CSIC, Madrid, Spain), in the
context of the Research Grant "New Optical Technologies to understand
and treat myopia", funded by the Spanish Government.
We are seeking students having completed a MSc in Biomedical
Engineering, Physics, Optics or related areas, with a strong motivation
to work in a multidisciplinary project (which combines vision, optical
imaging, microscopy, biomechanics, neuroscience..). Proficiency in
English is required.

The Visual Optics and Biophotonics Laboratory of the Institute of Optics
of CSIC in Madrid offers a FPI predoctoral contract linked to the
research grant FIS2017-84753- R: “New optical technologies to understand
and treat myopia”. The FPI 2017 call is now open, until 29th October
2018. Link here.
The FPI program is funded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and
Universities, and supports PhD training and research in R+D Centers in
the context of a specific research grant. These are details on the
contract:
4-year contract.
Gross salary of 16.422€ (19.000€ following the PhD completion).
Separate budget for short stays in other institutions
Tuition fees for the Doctoral Degree Programme.
Host Lab
The host lab, Visual Optics and Biophotonics Lab at the Institute of
Optics (CSIC) led by Prof. Susana Marcos, is highly international
recognized in the fields of visual optics and ocular imaging. The team
(20 members) is highly interdisciplinary and international, boasting
world‐class experimental facilities and access to a extensive network of
clinical, industrial, academic and professional collaborations
worldwide. CSIC is the largest Research Institution Nationwide, and the
lab is located in Madrid Central Campus. The selected PhD student will
also participate in training activities in the framework of
Institutional, National, European (ERC, Marie Curie ITN, COFUND, H2020
Innovation Action), and will benefit from a dynamic and fruitful

Candidate Profile
*
MSc in Biomedical engineering or Physics preferred; other degrees
such as Masters in Optical Technologies, Electrical Engineering or
Biomaterials Engineering will also be considered

Competitive CV and strong motivation for interdisciplinary
research, and biomedical (ophthalmology) applications
*
High level of written and spoken English.
