Enhancement, and Learned Compression at ETH Zurich*

The Computer Vision Laboratory <http://www.vision.ee.ethz.ch/en/> from ETH

Luc Van Gool, has open PhD student positions in image/video domain
translation, image/video restoration and enhancement, and learned
image/video compression.

Members of the lab already won best paper awards at top conferences (ICCV,
CVPR, ACCV, ICRA, ....), founded successful spinoffs, and/or collaborated
with industry.
Computer Vision Laboratory <http://www.vision.ee.ethz.ch/en/> is a highly
international team, with people from about 15 countries.

Depending on the position, the successful PhD candidate will focus on a
subset of the following

*Research Topics*:

   - deep learning
   - generative models (GANs, VAEs)
   - computational photography
   - image/video domain translation
   - learned image/video compression
   - image/video enhancement
   - supervised learning
   - unsupervised learning
   - multi-task learning
   - active learning
   - reinforcement learning
   - conditional modeling
   - context modeling
   - motion prediction

The tasks will involve designing, developing, and testing novel ideas in
cutting-edge research, as well as coordinating and conducting data
collection for their evaluation.
The PhD candidate will also collaborate with industry.

*Profile*:

   - Master's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, physics
   or applied mathematics/ statistics
   - Good programming knowledge and experience with  Python / C++ / MATLAB
   - Interest, prior knowledge and experience in one or more of the
   following is a plus: computer vision, deep learning, machine learning,
   image processing
   - Enthusiasm for leading-edge research, team spirit, and capability of
   independent problem-solving
   - Fluent written and spoken English is a must.

The positions are open immediately, fully funded, the salaries of the
doctoral students are at the level of 70'300 CHF (1st year), 75'300 CHF
(2nd year), 80'320 CHF (3rd year).
