TWO POST-DOC POSITIONS IN COMPUTATIONAL MODELLING OF PERCEPTION
Starting date: February 2019 or later
Two postdoctoral positions are available in Giessen, Germany, within the Collaborative Research Center "Cardinal Mechanisms of Perception" (http://www.sfb-perception.de). The two successful candidates will join a multi-disciplinary group of 20 PIs in Giessen and Marburg, tightly linked to scientists within Europe and world wide. We offer excellent facilities for studying visual perception and motor control. The group offers a stimulating, multi-national and multi-disciplinary research environment for young scientists (http://www.allpsych.uni-giessen.de). Giessen is a small university town, located just 60 km north of Frankfurt, right at the center of Germany.
We are searching for energetic and enthusiastic scientists with experience in computational modelling of perception or motor control. The task of the successful candidates will be to establish modelling approaches that can serve as a framework for several of the individual projects within the center. This is an outstanding opportunity for collaboration with multiple PIs, with the potential to deploy modelling skills across a wide range of topics. The successful candidate will have a direct supervisor and a core project, but the chance to contribute to multiple other projects. Examples of possible approaches are Bayesian modelling (e.g. time series models, nonparametric approaches), dynamical systems or deep learning.
The positions are for up to 3 years, but shorter contracts are possible if that is desired. Candidates should hold a PhD in computer science, experimental psychology, integrative neuroscience, or related field. A track record of synthesizing experimental results into overarching computational models is a plus. The positions are full-time with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 100%).
Applications should be sent by email to Karl Gegenfurtner (gegenfurtner at uni-giessen.de) no later than December 7, 2018. Please quote reference number 752/28385/06. Informal inquiries are highly encouraged. Full applications should include a CV, a statement of research interests, and the names of up to 3 people whom we could ask for a letter of reference. Applications from women and under-represented minorities are especially encouraged.
