The Department of Computer Science at the University of Bath wishes to
appoint an academic with internationally leading expertise in visual
computing. Key research interests will be in computer vision or graphics,
e.g. image and video analysis or vision for autonomous systems, possibly
with engagement in related areas such as machine learning or human-computer
interaction.

Research in the Department is organised in four groups: Visual Computing;
Artificial Intelligence; Human-Computer Interaction; and Mathematical
Foundations.

The Visual Computing group is a key strength of the department, is highly
regarded internationally and very successful in research publication and
grant capture. The nature of our research and our strong industry
connections mean that the group has clear routes to impact. The group also
provides research-led undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

This appointment is part of a strategic drive to strengthen our core
research. You will extend our core strengths and create effective
collaborations with colleagues across the Department’s research groups and
beyond. Across the University, there are exciting opportunities for
interdisciplinary collaboration. For example, we work with the Department
for Health in the Centre for the Analysis of Motion, Entertainment Research
and Applications (CAMERA).

Beyond the University, you will be expected to build on our national and
international collaborations with both academia and industry. Current
collaborators include Oxford, Cambridge, Tsinghua, Zhejiang, São Paulo, the
Office for National Statistics, the NHS, and across sectors including
entertainment, elite sport, and healthcare technologies.

You are expected to hold a PhD and to have an international reputation for
excellent publications in visual computing, backed up by an excellent track
record and outstanding potential to lead research projects, funding bids
and teaching. You will be expected to carry out and supervise research in
line with targets set by the Department and to obtain significant research
funding from external sources. You will contribute to teaching and must
have a continuing commitment to maintaining the University’s high standards
in teaching and learning, with the ability to educate and inspire some of
the brightest students in the country. You will also be expected to
contribute to the administration, leadership and management of the
Department’s activities commensurate with the level of the appointment.

The Department and the University are committed to providing a supportive
and inclusive working environment. We are working to improve the gender
balance within the Department and particularly welcome applications from
women.

For informal discussion about the roles, please contact Prof. Eamonn
O’Neill (E.ONeill at bath.ac.uk or +44 (0)1225 383216), however, please ensure
