When studying the human visual system one of the most important topic is contrast and how it should be considered when it comes to its use in image processing. Over the years different studies have tried to address topics such as contrast evaluation, contrast enhancement, and contrast modeling. While achromatic contrast sensitivity has been studied in detail little attention has been paid on chromatic contrast sensitivity. This special session aims to provide a platform for showcasing the theoretical and applied research advancements in this field of study. We aim to explore recent methods, challenges, and possible opportunities in this research domain. The topic of contrast and its effect on image and video quality is of special interest in fields such as medical imaging, video surveillance, remote sensing, underwater imaging, image forensics, intelligent transport systems, digital cinema, visual cultural heritage data, among others. While a large number of studies have focused on evaluating the quality of images and videos the same attention has been paid to the role of different properties such as contrast affecting the quality.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

  *   Contrast enhancement evaluation
  * Image/video quality assessment of contrast enhanced images/videos
  * Contrast enhancement evaluation of stereoscopic image/video
  * Contrast in perception; Achromatic and chromatic contrast sensitivity function, contrast masking, etc.
  * Databases dedicated to quality enhancement evaluation with regards to contrast
  * Contrast enhancement evaluation in the different applications such as medical imaging, video surveillance, remote sensing, underwater imaging, image forensics, intelligent transport systems, digital cinema and cultural heritage.
  * Other related works on contrast.

Original and unpublished work is invited to be submitted to the special session. The papers should be submitted through the regular submission system and will undergo the same review process as regular papers. More information about the paper submission guidelines can be found at: http://euvip2019.uniroma3.it/papersubm.html

Important dates:

Full Paper Submission: Extended to July 7th 2017

Notification of Acceptance: September 1st 2019

Camera Ready Deadline: September 22nd 2019

Conference:                            October 28th-31st 2019
