The conference on Human Vision and Electronic Imaging (HVEI) is held annually as part of the Symposium on Electronic Imaging (EI), sponsored by IS&T, the Society for Imaging Science and Technology. HVEI provides a unique bridge between academic research and industrial applications, with attendance at the EI symposium split fairly evenly between university and industry researchers. HVEI authors and attendees come from academic departments in computer science, imaging science, engineering, psychology, cognitive neuroscience and art; they also come from high tech and government laboratories, and from art studios and start-ups.
HVEI proceedings papers are 4-6 pages in length, are peer-reviewed, but are not reviewed again to check the revisions. The submission deadline for proceedings papers is September 30th. An additional publication option is called "journal-first," in which a full-length version of the paper is rigorously reviewed for inclusion in the Journal of Perceptual Imaging (JPI), which was recently launched by the former chairs of HVEI. If accepted, a journal-first paper will appear as a reprint in the conference proceedings, and can be presented at the conference. Authors of JPI-first papers will receive a 50% discount on the conference registration fee. The nominal deadline for JPI-first submissions is July 15th, but the JPI editors have indicated that they are somewhat flexible.
For those authors not wishing to publish in the proceedings, there is also a “presentation only” submission option.
The EI symposium consists of peer-reviewed technical presentations and posters, punctuated with interactive discussions, panels, short courses, and social activities. Every year, special invited sessions introduce new topics to the HVEI community, broadening the dialogue and encouraging new areas of research.
