PhD Scholarship in Vision and Night-time Driving

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to complete a PhD in the area of Vision and Night Driving. This forms part of a larger Australian Research Council Discovery project that aims to characterise the visual challenges of the modern night driving environment, explore novel visual tests relevant to night-time driving, and assess how these tests relate to night driving performance.

A 3-year full-time PhD scholarship is available, with a stipend of AU $27,596 per annum (2019 rate; indexed annually; tax exempt). International students will receive a Tuition Fee Sponsorship and Single Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). Supervision will be by a multidisciplinary team from vision, psychology and lighting, with primary supervision being within the Vision and Everyday Function laboratory at Queensland University of Technology (QUT): https://research.qut.edu.au/visionfunction/ within the School of Optometry & Vision Science, which recently received a ranking of 4 'above world standard' in the Excellence in Research for Australia evaluations. It is one of the nation's fastest growing research universities with courses in high demand.

Our laboratory uses a range of research approaches including visual psychophysics, photometry and on-road luminance mapping, eye-tracking, and on road driving performance. We seek an applicant with a strong undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. visual science, lighting engineering or psychology) who meets the requirements for undertaking a PhD at QUT: https://www.qut.edu.au/research/study-with-us/phd.
