The Department of Neurobiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine invites applications for tenure-track faculty. We are seeking candidates who apply innovative approaches to investigate the development, function, and malfunction of the nervous system at all levels of analysis. We also encourage computational, engineering, and non-traditional approaches to understanding the nervous system. Appointments may be at any rank.
UAB is a research-intensive university, with annual research expenditures exceeding $562 million and ranked in the top 10 among public universities for NIH funding. The Department of Neurobiology provides competitive start-up packages, substantial salary support, modern laboratory space, excellent core facilities, and extensive opportunities for collaborative research and participation in undergraduate, graduate and medical training programs. UAB is strongly committed to neuroscience research.  The department is expanding rapidly under new leadership. A broad and collegial environment for neuroscience research is facilitated by the UAB Comprehensive Neuroscience Center, a network of over 200 basic, translational and clinical faculty from 23 departments.

Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. in a related field and a strong record of research accomplishments. Faculty members are expected to establish active independent research programs and to participate in education of professional, graduate and undergraduate students.
