The group of Dr. Natalia Zaretskaya at the Institute of Psychology, University of Graz / BioTechMed-Graz is looking for three motivated doctoral students to study subjective aspects of visual perception using a combination of visual illusions and functional/structural MRI.

The project is funded by BioTechMed-Graz (https://biotechmedgraz.at/en/ ) and is focused on studying visual perception in healthy individuals and in patients experiencing hallucinations. The clinically relevant work will be done in close collaboration with the Neurology and Ophthalmology clinics of the Styrian State Hospital. The project provides an opportunity to learn advanced (f)MRI techniques, including quantitative morphometry, surface-based analysis, pRF mapping, high-resolution structural and functional MRI, while answering exciting scientific questions.

The position is for one year, with the possibility of extension for up to four years in total. PhD candidates will be employed under a work contract with health and pension benefits. The project also includes travel funds to attend conferences and workshops.

We are looking for candidates with strong background in neuroscience, biology, psychology, medicine and other related fields. Programming experience (e.g. using MATLAB or Python) and experience with MRI/fMRI is a plus.

Graz is an international city with three major universities (UniGraz, MedUni, TU) and several neuroscience hotspots. You will have access to all major human neuroscience tools (EEG, TMS, tDCS), including the latest model of a research-dedicated 3T MRI scanner. Through the affiliation with BioTechMed-Graz, you will have access to graduate courses, regular networking opportunities and scientific retreats.

Graz is the second largest city in Austria after Vienna. It is uniquely situated between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea, and provides excellent conditions to maintain the optimal work-life balance.

Interested candidates should send their application documents in electronic form (PDF format) to natalia.zaretskaya at uni-graz.at<mailto:natalia.zaretskaya at uni-graz.at> .The deadline for the applications is the 15th of November, 2019.
