Schepens Eye Research Institute, Mass Eye and Ear, Department of Ophthalmology, Harvard Medical School have an immediate opening for a full-time postdoctoral fellow to work with Drs. Eli Peli (https://pelilab.partners.org<https://pelilab.partners.org/>) and Jae-Hyun Jung in the Mobility Enhancement and Vision Rehabilitation Center of Excellence.
- Job description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly-motivated postdoc candidate with strong capabilities in the development of optical visual aids and computational background. This position is supported by NIH grant to develop novel visual aids for patients with visual field loss and to implement a virtual reality system to evaluate patients' performance with the visual aids.
- Requirement
* Ph.D. in optical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, vision science or related fields
* Basic optical design skill (e.g., Lighttools, Zemax, or any optical analysis tool)
* Good programming skill to model and analyze the system (e.g., Matlab, C++, Python, or JAVA)
* Proven record (prototyping, demonstration, simulation, etc.) of research experience in the field of visual aids development (e.g., head-mounted display, eyewear design, augmented display, etc.)
* Publication records (peer-reviewed journal or conference proceeding)
* Enthusiasm, problem-solving, and excellent scientific communication skills
- Below items are plus
* Any 3D rendering tool or CAD skill
* Experience with virtual reality systems
* Interest and motivation in helping people with impaired vision
* Understanding of statistical analysis
* Experience in human subject studies
The position is initially available for 12 months with possible extension.
