Several Postdoc Positions in Computational Cognitive Neuroscience to be filled in 2020

The Donner lab at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) aims to fill several postdoc positions during the course of 2020. The vacant positions are for projects in computational cognitive neuroscience with links to psychiatry, and they are funded for a full duration between two and five years. Positions can start any time from March 2020 to early 2021. Applications will be reviewed until all positions are filled.

The Donner lab combines pharmacological intervention, psychophysics, eye-tracking, and neuroimaging (MEG and fMRI) in human subjects with computational modeling and advanced data analysis. Ongoing work focuses on (i) decision-related cortical feedback signals and biases in perception and cognition (including confirmation biases); (ii) the impact of cortical excitation-inhibition balance on inference and decision-making; and (iii) the shaping of the latter by neuromodulatory systems (including stress). These topics are studied in the healthy brain and in neuropsychiatric disorders. The lab maintains several collaborations with leading theoretical, cellular, and clinical neuroscientists. The UKE provides an excellent infrastructure for state-of-the-art cognitive neuroscience, including multiple neuroimaging facilities (e.g., research-only MEG and MRI scanners, EEG and TMS systems), and a streamlined procedure for pharmacological intervention studies in healthy human subjects.

The new lab members will join existing teams with extensive expertise in the above techniques and topics. In addition to running new experiments, there is an option to engage in (i) data analysis / modeling projects on an already existing pool of pharmacological MEG data sets targeting distinct neurotransmitter systems, and (ii) ongoing collaborations on brain disorders and in-vivo neurophysiology (including calcium imaging and opto/-chemogenetics) within the Collaborative Research Center 936 (http://www.sfb936.net <http://www.sfb936.net/>).

The Donner lab is committed to diversity and seeks applications from qualified individuals from all demographics, genders, and backgrounds.

Candidates should have or expect a Ph.D. in neuroscience or related discipline, and strong computational and analytical skills. Experience in quantitative psychophysics, behavioral/neural modeling, MEG, and/or advanced data analysis, is a plus. However, the main criteria are a strong academic track record and a commitment to scientific excellence.

Applications should include a motivation letter, a CV including publication list, copies of university degrees and courses (including obtained grades), and the names and e-mail addresses of two scientists, who can provide references (do not include reference letters). The publication list should include also manuscripts / thesis chapters under review or in preparation, and conference abstracts, plus a brief (2-3 sentences) synopsis of all lead-author papers. Copies of key papers and preprints are welcome.

Please send your application materials as PDF (ideally in one file) to: t.donner at uke.de <mailto:t.donner at uke.de>
