That is very sad news.
Manfred did some lovely work on hyperacuity, perceptual learning, and visual search back in the 1980s, when I first knew him.
Fahle, M., Edelman, S., & Poggio, T. (1995). Fast perceptual learning in hyperacuity. Vision Res, 35(21), 3003-3013.
Fahle, M. (1991). A new elementary feature of vision. Invest. Ophthalmol. Vis. Sci., 32(7), 2151-2155.
Poggio, T., Fahle, M., & Edelman, S. (1992). Fast perceptual learning in visual hyperacuity. Science, 256(5059), 1018-1021.

Dear Colleagues:
With a very sad heart I have to inform you that Manfred Fahle did on 26 February 2020.
He was a friend and brilliant colleague, just retiring.
His wife, Karoline, allowed me to pass this on to you.
Can’t say any more right now…
Michael
