Apologies for any cross-posting.

Cardiff University is offering a 3-year PhD studentship, funded by the Macular Society (UK). Please draw your students’ attention to this opportunity (note the short deadline).

The project will use Imaging Retinal Densitometry (IRD) technology, unique to Cardiff University, to study choroidal vasculature and photoreceptor visual pigments in age-related macular degeneration (AMD). This is an exciting opportunity to develop and apply basic science skills while working with a patient population.

Funding will cover tuition fees at the UK/EU level and a tax-free stipend for 3 years. The project will be supervised by Ashley Wood, Tom Margrain, and Rhiannon Reynolds (Ophthalmologist at Royal Gwent Hospital). Further details about the project and how to apply can be found here: https://www.findaphd.com/phds/project/phd-in-vision-sciences-high-fidelity-imaging-densitometry-exploring-the-relationship-between-visual-pigment-kinetics-choroidal-vasculature-and-sub-retinal-drusenoid-deposits-in-age-related-macular-degeneration/?p122977

The deadline for applications is Tuesday 1st September 2020, with an intended start date of 1st October 2020.

Informal enquiries are encouraged; please direct to Dr Ashley Wood (WoodA2 at cardiff.ac.uk)<mailto:DunnMJ1 at cardiff.ac.uk)> or Prof. Tom Margrain (MargrainTH at cardiff.ac.uk)<mailto:RushtonSK at cardiff.ac.uk)>.
