Postdoctoral Position to Study the Functional Organization of the Visual
System at the University of California, Irvine.
Applications are invited for an NIH-funded postdoctoral position in the
Lyon Laboratory in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at UC
Irvine. Projects are designed to investigate the cell-type specificity
of long-range circuits in the visual cortex of highly visual mammals
(such as the cat) and rodent using viral tracers genetically engineered
in the lab, optogenetics, intrinsic signal optical imaging, and single
unit electrophysiology.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in neuroscience, or a related field. The
ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of the following
areas: 1) single-unit electrophysiology; 2) Matlab programming; 3)
intrinsic signal optical imaging; 4) optogenetics; 5) cell-culture
and/or genetic engineering of plasmid DNA.
Lack of experience in any or all of the above techniques can be offset
by a demonstration of skill with a related technique and by high
motivation and enthusiasm to take on new challenges.
Candidates should also not mind year-long pleasant weather, the beach
being a few miles away, and having to drive two hours in order to see
snow in winter.
The positions are for 1 to 2 years, with the option for additional
years. Funding is available now, but the start date is negotiable.
Salaries are commensurate with experience based on the NIH scale.
Interested applicants should send a CV, research statement, and the
names and e-mail addresses of 2-3 references to the PI: dclyon at uci.edu
For more information about the position feel free to contact the PI
directly.
