DESCRIPTION

The School of Optometry at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank in the area of vision research, with an expected start date as early as July 1, 2021. The scope of this search includes but is not limited to psychophysical studies of visual perception, visual optics, visual neuroscience, clinical binocular vision, translational research in vision science, application of data science and artificial intelligence to the analysis of patient/clinical datasets or the development of new diagnostic/management tools, and applied vision research.

Candidates must have a PhD (or equivalent international degree) or be enrolled in a PhD program or equivalent international degree program at the time of application. In addition, clinical training (OD, MD, or equivalent international degree) is preferred. The successful applicant will demonstrate exceptional achievements in vision research and a commitment to excellence in teaching in both the professional (Doctor of Optometry) and graduate (PhD program in Vision Science) curricula.

The successful candidate will also have opportunities to interact and collaborate with members of the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute, the new faculty of Data Science, Redwood Center for Theoretical Neuroscience, and the Departments of Bioengineering, Computer Science, Biology and Psychology, amongst others.
