Two fully funded PhD and postdoc positions in Cognitive Neuroscience are available in the lab of Dr. Rademaker – located at the Ernst Strüngmann Institute in Frankfurt, Germany (www.rademakerlab.org<http://www.rademakerlab.org>).

We study: How the interplay between sensation and cognition gives rise to the rich experience that is human perception. Current work investigates how images briefly held in mind (in ‘visual working memory') can be remembered in a robust manner. For example, when you’re perceiving the surrounding world while simultaneously holding an image in mind - how can your brain best represent both the percept and the memory? And what happens if you need to pay close attention to your surroundings? Besides working memory, the lab is broadly interested in topics that intersect perception, cognition, and action in the brain.

We offer:

  *   Full funding.
  * A collaborative and international research environment in the heart of Europe.
  * Access to research dedicated (high-field) fMRI, MEG, and computational resources.
  * A strong network of international collaborators.
  *   Start date at/after July 1st 2021.

We’re looking for:

  * Smart & enthusiastic people with a deep curiosity about the brain; who enjoy digging into the nitty-gritty of detailed problems; love seeking answers to Really Big Questions; are okay with the occasional failures inherent to science.
  * While we do not require entry tests (like the GRE), we do require an affinity for computational methods, critical thinking, and an eye for detail.
  * Potential postdocs: a background that includes programming (i.e. Matlab / Python) is required, and experience with neuroimaging (i.e. MEG and fMRI) is preferred.
  * Potential PhD students: A track record showing your interest in (cognitive) neuroscience and computational methods is a strong plus.

Equality & diversity are important to us! Underrepresented minorities are particularly encouraged to apply, and we offer a family friendly work environment with affordable childcare next door. For any further inquiries do not hesitate to get in touch – happy to answer any and all questions (rosanne.rademaker at gmail.com<mailto:rosanne.rademaker at gmail.com>).

To apply: Send an email to rosanne.rademaker at gmail.com<mailto:rosanne.rademaker at gmail.com> with the following information:

  1. Research statement describing the neuroscience research questions you have worked on in the past, and outstanding questions you would like to address in the future (max 1 page).

  2. Statement of purpose describing what drives and motivates your passion for neuroscience research. Please feel free to take this opportunity to discuss both the ups and downs of your path into scientific research or any perceived shortcomings in your application (max 1 page).

  3. Recent CV including (if applicable) a list of publications, computational competencies, and other relevant experience.

  4. The names & email addresses of 3 references.

  5. Most recent transcript of your grades (PhD applicants only).
