Dear Colleagues,
I would like to politely make a request of anyone posting conference
information. If the conference name has an acronym, please spell out the
full conference name at the beginning of the announcement. That way,
anyone who doesn't already know the acronym can have some idea of what it
is, and if they should look into it.
Some people posting conference information might think, "anyone who doesn't
already know the acronym for our conference, doesn't need to know." At
least, that seems to be the implicit assumption of the numerous conference
postings that only give their acronyms throughout the entire posting.
However, I am guessing that most, or many, conferences aspire to bring in
new members and presenters, sometimes even from outside of their normal
group of members. Such new members or presenters can bring interesting new
perspectives. So, it certainly can't hurt to spend the extra 1-3 seconds
it takes to type out the full name of the conference at the top of the
message.
Just a thought.
Best wishes,
Les Loschky
