*Ph.D. in Extended Reality at iXR at NJIT*
Applications are invited from candidates interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in
Informatics doing Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality (VR, AR, and MR)
research at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).
The students will be supervised by Dr. Margarita Vinnikov (
margaritavinnikov.com) and will be part of the Multidisciplinary
Interaction, Machine Intelligence, and XR Research (MIXR) Lab.
Topics of interest would include the design, development, and evaluation
of novel: multi-model (visual, audio, and haptic) user experiences such as
gaze-contingent displays for gaming and social interaction applications;
Multi-user interaction for augmented reality applications for STEM
education; New techniques for improving navigation and interaction in VR
for data-intensive applications.
The candidate should have excellent programming skills in C/C++ and C#.
Knowledge of quantitative analysis methods and body and eye-tracking
techniques is a plus. Prior research experience (with publications) is
desirable, and so are prototyping and 3D modeling abilities.
Each candidate will be fully funded for at least four years ($30,000/year),
have conference travel support, and receive a tuition waiver. This sums up
to $220,000+ in total funding for each Informatics Ph.D. student.

Newark, NJ, a 20-minute train ride from Manhattan. It is the 3rd
Fastest-growing University in the US. The Ying Wu College of Computing
(YWCC) is the largest college of computing in the New York metro area. As a
result, 25% of all high-tech employees in New Jersey trained at NJIT.
Applicants should follow the formal procedure for application on
the NJIT Informatics Department website (https://informatics.njit.edu/phd
-information-systems/) but are encouraged to informally discuss details
about the position with Dr. Vinnikov at vinnikov at njit.edu before
application. When sending informal inquiries, please provide a CV and a
brief description of why you are interested in this position.
