THE AVA - DAVID MARR MEDAL - 2021
ANNOUNCEMENT & CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
The AVA awards, normally every two years, a medal recognizing the
achievements of an outstanding vision scientist in the early part of their
research career. The award is called the David Marr medal, in memory of one
of Britain's most distinguished vision researchers. Following the
successful launch of the award in 2008, this notice is a call for
nominations for the 2021 award.
Candidates from any country are eligible as long as they can demonstrate a
significant link to UK research, and who completed their PhD no more than
10 years ago. More precisely: for the 2021 award, nominees should have
submitted their PhD on or after Jan 1st 2010.
Nominations (but not self-nominations) are invited from AVA members, and
• a letter of recommendation
• the nominee's CV (with list of publications)
• two example publications (PDF files).
Any eligible vision scientist may be nominated, whether nominated
previously or not.
The winner of the 2021 award will be announced by 30th July 2021. They will
be invited to receive it and to give a talk at the AVA Christmas meeting
Information about previous Marr medal winners can be found here:
Deadline: Nominations (in electronic form) should be e-mailed to the AVA
secretariat: secretary at theava.net by Friday, June 15th 2021.
Nominators considering candidates who submitted their PhD earlier than Jan
1st 2010, but who subsequently had a career break, are welcome to consult
the AVA about eligibility by emailing the secretariat: secretary at theava.net
