The Institute for Collaborative Biotechnologies (ICB) at the University
of California, Santa Barbara, is actively seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar
to conduct research in the *Vision and Image Understanding Laboratory*
(https://viu.psych.ucsb.edu <https://viu.psych.ucsb.edu/>) with ICB
faculty Principal Investigator *Miguel Eckstein.* The laboratory is
looking for individuals with particular emphasis in the area of
computational human vision, visual search, attention and learning, eye
movements applied to problems in spatial reasoning, navigation and/or
medical imaging.
The research seeks to answer fundamental questions about vision in
humans and machines. The Postdoctoral Scholar will have the opportunity
to participate in activities with the Institute for Collaborative
Biotechnologies, the Sage Center for the Study of the Mind
(https://www.sagecenter.ucsb.edu <https://www.sagecenter.ucsb.edu/>) and
the Mind and Machine Intelligence Initiative
(https://mind-machine.ucsb.edu <https://mind-machine.ucsb.edu/>).
*Job Responsibilitiesps*
It is expected that the postdoctoral scholar will work closely with
other postdoctoral scholars and Ph.D. students in the project to design
and conduct studies gathering human psychophysics, eye movement and/or
human neuro-imaging data. They will assess deep learning models and
develop computational models of human visual search, scene
understanding, navigation; write reports and peer-review publications
summarizing the studies; present at national/international conferences.
The Institute for Collaborative Biotechnologies is an Army-sponsored
University Affiliated Research Center (UARC). The ICB is a uniquely
interdisciplinary research alliance led by the University of California,
Santa Barbara, in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, the California Institute of Technology and partners from the
Army and industry. ICB research is driven by more than 50 premier
faculty working together with graduate students, project scientists,
specialists, and professional researchers as interdisciplinary teams of
biologists, chemists, physicists, psychologists, physicians, social
scientists, and engineers. These teams develop biologically inspired,
revolutionary technological innovations in systems and synthetic
biology, materials science and engineering, biotechnology tools and
cognitive neuroscience.
The department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute
to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through
research, teaching and service.
