A postdoctoral position or Research Assistant position is available in the Laboratory of Dr. Susan Leat at the School of Optometry and Vision Science, University of Waterloo. We are studying new ways to examine the vision of young children and the implementation of pediatric vision care. The project involves validation of visual acuity tests in young infants, adults and participants with visual impairments or amblyopia, surveys of optometrists regarding pediatric optometry practice patterns, and the identification of children who most require eye examinations.

The Fellowship requires a PhD in vision science or other relevant field. The Research Assistant would require a Masters or equivalent experience in these areas. The ideal candidate would have experience and passion working with young children, expertise in visual psychophysics, and skills in data analysis, statistics and manuscript preparation.

The School of Optometry and Vision Science has an active research programme (one of the largest in a School of Optometry) and a well-established international reputation for Research.

This is a full-time, 1-year position, ideally running from October 2021 or as soon as possible, with the possibility of renewal for another 6 months based on satisfactory performance.
