Two PhD positions are available in Giessen, Germany, to work in the field of cognitive and computational neuroscience of human face perception.
The positions are part of a DFG-funded project on "Factors shaping categorical face processing" in the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Centre "Cardinal Mechanisms of Perception" (www.sfb-perception.de/index-en/ <http://www.sfb-perception.de/index-en/>). The project is headed by Katharina Dobs (www.katharinadobs.com <http://www.katharinadobs.com/>) and Ben de Haas (www.individual-perception.com <http://www.individual-perception.com/>). Both positions are funded for max. 4 years, with salary according to 75% F.T.E. of TV-H E13 (Entgeltgruppe 13, Tarifvertrag Hessen).
The project is based at the Psychology Department of Giessen University, Germany, which offers excellent facilities for studying visual perception. These include state of the art eyetracking labs and mobile eyetracking, a newly established virtual reality lab, a research-dedicated MRI facility (3T Siemens Prisma) and access to high performance computing clusters. The lab is part of a larger research group, with excellent links to scientists within Europe and worldwide (www.allpsych.uni-giessen.de <http://www.allpsych.uni-giessen.de/>), which offers a stimulating, multi-national and multi-disciplinary research environment. Giessen is a small university town, located just 60 km north of Frankfurt, right at the center of Germany.
We are a group of enthusiastic vision scientists, aiming to understand visual processing - with a focus on face and object recognition - in the human brain. Our main methods are computational modeling (including DNNs), neuroimaging (EEG and MRI), psychophysics and eyetracking.
