PhD position in Ophthalmic Imaging
Indiana University

A PhD student position is available in Don Miller's laboratory on advanced ophthalmic imaging at Indiana University (www.MillerImagingLab.org<http://www.MillerImagingLab.org>). The laboratory is looking for a highly motivated student with a science or engineering background with an interest to develop cutting-edge optical instrumentation to image the retina at the cellular level and/or to use such instrumentation to conduct vision science experiments. Especially relevant fields include optical engineering, optical physics, computer science, and bioengineering. The laboratory's primary focus is on the development and use of adaptive optics and optical coherence tomography, technologies the laboratory has been advancing for the past two decades. Some of our recent work can be found in PNAS: https://www.pnas.org/content/118/47/e2107444118, www.pnas.org/content/116/16/7951.short<http://www.pnas.org/content/116/16/7951.short>, and www.pnas.org/content/114/48/12803.abstract<http://www.pnas.org/content/114/48/12803.abstract>.

The student position is part of the IU Vision Science Graduate Program. The Program includes a highly active group of multidisciplinary vision scientists, mostly from within the School of Optometry but also from Neuroscience, Psychology, Brain Science, Biology, and School of Engineering. Research areas include visual optics, imaging, neuroscience, ocular biology, ocular motor function, visual development, and low vision, and involve both basic science and translational studies. Students are supported through a combination of fellowships, teaching activities, and grants.

Application information can be found at https://optometry.iu.edu/admissions/apply/ms-phd-programs.html. A description of the PhD program is available at www.optometry.iu.edu/academics/degrees/phd.shtml<http://www.optometry.iu.edu/academics/degrees/phd.shtml>. Indiana University is a major research university with many of its graduate programs ranked among the best in the US. It currently enrolls over 38,000 undergraduates and 10,000 graduate and professional students. Its campus is considered one of the five most beautiful in the US. Bloomington is a diverse community located in a beautifully wooded and hilly area of the state where cultural and recreational opportunities abound, housing costs are low, schools are excellent, and commuting time is short.
