*Adaptive Optics for Biomedical Applications*

*Biomedical Optics Express, *published by Optica (formerly OSA), welcomes
submissions to a feature issue on *"Adaptive Optics for Biomedical
Applications". *Adaptive optics has enabled unprecedented access to the
basic building blocks of biology and medicine. Borrowing ideas and
approaches from astronomy, adaptive optics was first demonstrated in living
biological tissue—the human eye—25 years ago. Since then, adaptive optics
has expanded its use and applications in ophthalmology, vision science,
microscopy and neuroscience. This was made possible by technology
development targeted for these specific application areas and fueled by a
growing need to quantify and visualize biological structures and processes
at cellular and sub-cellular resolution in living tissue.

This feature issue will collate and summarize the major advances in these
areas over the last 3 decades and disseminate the latest research. Topics
of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

   - Microscopy
   - Neuroscience
   - Ophthalmology
   - Vision Science
   - Computational Adaptive Optics—Wavefront sensorless Adaptive Optics &
   digital aberration correction
   - Novel Adaptive Optics instrumentation
   - Wavefront sensing and correction
   - Image processing algorithms
   - Machine Learning
   - Functional imaging
   - Disease biomarkers
   - Clinical translation
   - Multimodal Adaptive Optics technology

The standard *Biomedical Optics Express* Article Processing Charges
<https://opg.optica.org/submit/review/pub_charge.cfm#apcs> will apply to
all published articles. Please prepare manuscripts according to the author
instructions for submission to Biomedical Optics Express and submit through
our Prism's electronic submission system
<https://prism.optica.org/Account/Login?ReturnUrl=%2FAuthor>, specifying
from the drop-down menu that the manuscript is for the feature issue
on *Adaptive
Optics for Biomedical Applications*.
