I have not interacted with Prof. AB Bonds as frequently as many in this list, but will be forever grateful for him allowing me to use his laboratory during a fantastic summer in 1994, when I collaborated with Viv Casagrande in our study of the galago extrastriate cortex. Without his help, that project and the resulting paper would never have been possible. I vividly remember being impressed at how his laboratory was set up, to allow some of the best quality single unit electrophysiology I have ever been involved with.

AB was trained by Christina Enroth-Cugell at Northwestern and Ralph Freeman at Berkeley and studied everything from optics to retina to the visual cortex. Attendees of ARVO and the early days of VSS probably know him best for his eccentric personality. As a retiree, he continued to be an adventurous world traveler and a vibrant member of the Nashville community with his interests in music and classical European cars.
