Dear All,

We have a post-doctoral position available at York University. Please see below for details.

Thanks,

Rob

Postdoctoral position – Shared Perception in Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality
York University, Toronto

A well-funded postdoctoral position is available in the Centre for Vision Research, York University, under the supervision of Robert Allison and Laurie Wilcox. This is a two-year position with possibility of an extension. The salary for this position is competitive and the starting date is flexible around a nominal start date of January 2023. We will consider applicants until the position is filled but will begin reviewing and interviewing after November 15, 2022.

We are looking for a keen collaborator to join our interdisciplinary research team. The project studies the perceptual experiences of shared mixed reality; we will develop a foundational understanding of how two or more people can develop and use a common perceptual understanding of (1) Shared Places and Spaces, (2) Shared Objects and Materials and (3) Shared Interactions. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on topics such as multisensory and cue integration, the perception of space and navigation in VR/AR, material perception, and the perception of affordances.

Requirements
Ideally the successful candidate will have a strong background in both stereoscopic VR displays and human psychophysics along with basic technical skills in developing and conducting experiments in VR/AR or 3D computer graphic environments. Applications will only be considered from individuals who have completed their dissertation and will have defended their PhD prior to taking up the position.

Opportunities
The York Centre for Vision Research (CVR) is an international leader in human and machine vision research with exceptional researchers and facilities. For details see http://www.cvr.yorku.ca/. Work at the CVR is highly interdisciplinary and collaborative, rooted in a fundamental research programme that merges techniques in human psychophysics, visual neuroscience and computational theory.

The successful candidate will also be eligible to apply for additional support from the VISTA (Vision: Science to Applications) program, a collaborative program funded by the Canada First Research Excellence Fund. For more information see http://vista.info.yorku.ca/. This program is designed to foster links between foundational research and its applications.

To apply
Please direct your application to Kristina Issa at kissa10 at yorku.ca<mailto:kissa10 at yorku.ca> with the subject line, Post Doc Application: Shared Perception in Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality.
