A position for a post-doctoral project scientist has become available at
the Visual Optics and Psychophysics laboratory, headed by Dr Shrikant R.
Bharadwaj, at the L V Prasad Eye Institute , Hyderabad, India (

The project, funded through the Cognitive Science Research Initiative of
the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, involves
understanding of accommodation-vergence interactions to conflicting defocus
and disparity cues. The project is meant to gain insights on how the human
visual system handles conflicting near vision demands encountered during
natural viewing, pathology and while using virtual reality/augmented
reality displays. The lab is equipped with high-speed photorefractors, eye
trackers and standard equipment/software for psychophysical testing to be
used for these studies. This is a collaborative project with an advisory
group comprised of Prof. Clifton Schor, UC Berkeley, Prof. Christopher
Tyler, Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute and City, University of
London and Prof. Simon Grant, City, University of London.

Candidates applying for this position must have a PhD degree in Vision
Science or related fields (computer science, cognitive science,
experimental psychology, etc). Experience with psychophysical
experimentation, oculomotor measurements and programming in Matlab or R or
Python is desirable. Monthly remuneration will be in line with what is
offered for post-doctoral researchers through the Govt of India (INR
56,000/- + HRA per month and increment of 5% once every 2 years subject to
performance review).

The L V Prasad Eye Institute hosts a relatively small but very vibrant
community of vision science researchers (5 PI's and 20+ students). The
group routinely engages in several critical thinking activities, actively
publishes in top-tier vision science journals and is generously funded
through several governmental and non-governmental funding. The selected
candidate will become part of this vibrant community and will receive
personal mentoring for their future career as an independent investigator.
